1. Downloading from illegal sites – This is one of the major causes for malware. Whether it is software, music or videos, you have greater chances of getting malware by visiting and downloading from these websites.

2. Visiting pornographic sites – Research has it that porn or adult websites tend to have more malicious software compared to other sites. Some say that it only take a little over a hundred dollars for a porn site operator to spread malware to about 20,000 computers.

3. Clicking on pop-up advertisements – What most of us don’t know is that these ads are designed as a hook or a tempting force to embed malware into someone else’s computer.

4. Downloading fake anti-virus – Most users that accidentally get malware in their computer see a reminder that pops up to entice them to renew their subscription or to warn them that their computer is infected. What they don’t know is that this is just a way to lure them into downloading a fake anti-virus software and malware comes with it.

5. Free programs – Programs like games, media players as well as screen savers are also probable causes for malware. However, not all free programs can cause your computer to get infected by malware, it is still important to take the necessary precautions just in case.
